Piazza Castello Atelier

Piazza Castello Atelier

Milan, Italy

The space that is now home to L’Artigianato’s studio on Milan’s Piazza Castello echoes the magic of 19th century details, such as carved overdoors, high ceilings and parquet floors, with the sense of a classic apartment which might have once belonged to a Milanese Sciura – the word for Signora in Milanese dialect denoting a sort of grand charm that symbolizes the city.

To the restored historical details, Eric has added bespoke wallpapers by Fromental and walls lined with vintage wallpapers and last remnants of a favourite discontinued Rubelli paisley, custom-made Argentinian granito fino paste stone floors.

The mix of furniture includes antique chairs covered in fabric by Le Manach, a silk velvet sofa bought at auction in New York, an old Fortuny upholstered pelmet salvaged during Eric’s refurbishment of the Gritti Palace in Venice.

Art, from Impressionist and landscape painting to prints from Andy Warhol’s 1975 ‘Ladies and Gentleman’ series, hang on the walls. Sometimes, Eric says, “too much is never enough.”
