Umbrian Country House

Reschio, Italy

The transformation of this 10,000-square-foot, 17th century farmhouse into a family retreat embodies Eric’s turnkey project approach which marries the comfort of a house with the five-star experience of a luxury hotel.

Here, the spirit and nuance of the surrounding Umbrian countryside has been given a twist of rustic glamour – grainy, knotted wooden beams and well-worn terrazzo and limestone floors jostle alongside a Claude Lalanne chandelier, 1940s Pierre Lottier armchairs and a 17th century embossed leather headboard.

A handpainted mural by Florentine artist Francesca Guicciardini and the dining room’s faux-bois tabletop, hand painted by local artisan Diego Granato, celebrate the country’s renowned contemporary artisanry.

Bedlinens were custom embroidered; art includes contemporary photography by Liu Bolin. The result is a house which feels as if it has naturally evolved, grounded in its landscape.
